Social Cruise Group
Meetings: The second Sunday of each month, 4:30pm @ the Clubhouse Deck – all Full Members welcome! Informal catch up on the Deck every Friday evening.Formed in August 2007, the Social Cruise Group is a special interest group promoting social cruising and activities for sailers, motor-cruisers, trailer boaties with yachts and runabouts. We support safe and courteous boating practices and have a lot of fun along the way. Everyone is welcome!
The advent of the MBTBC Marina in 1992 introduced a new group of Members to the Club – folk with boats that don’t fit on trailers. Some of these Members are well served by the Fishing and Sailing sub-groups, however others have different boating interests which we aim to address in the SCG.
We have found out just how challenging it can be to coordinate weather, tides, people and boats for an event, and have a lot of respect for fellow sub-groups and their own event organisation. One of our most popular (and easier) outings is “Brunch on Green Island”. This has become a regular event on the SCG calendar, scheduled for the Sunday nearest the full moon (to take advantage of mid-morning tides and beach access). If the weather is kind, almost anything that floats – fast or slow, deep or shallow – can make the three mile run for a sociable breakfast on Green. The overall aim of the group is to get people and their boats out on the beautiful bay and have a great time with good food, drink and company. It’s not about how fast or slow we go – just that we DON’T go hungry and DO have a ball!
To date the group have organised some terrific activities and events including:
Progressive Dinners
Sunday Brunch on Green Island
Overnight and Day trips to Little Ship Club at Straddie, Horseshoe Bay at Peel Island and Blakersleys
Overnight trips to the Club’s Southern Haven, South Straddie
Cruises to St Helena Island with tours and lunch
4WD weekends to Noosa North Shore (our Northern Haven)
Visits to Tangalooma and the Sand Hills on Moreton Island
Participation in the annual Club Kid’s Christmas Party
Breakfast on the Clubhouse Deck
We like to celebrate at every opportunity, so will often organise get togethers for Member birthdays and other special events.
The Social Cruise Group meet at 4:30pm on the second Sunday of the month on the Clubhouse Deck for a meeting, drinks and planning. Every Friday evening we catch up on the Deck again for an informal get together to chat about weekend boating activities.
We always welcome new Members, so come along to a meeting and share in our love of boating, the bay and Social Cruising. We are a very friendly lot of boaties!
